Podcast Episode 86 – Part A

What’s going on in your lives oh dwellers of the internet’s darkest corners. We implore you to come out from under your rocks and exit the foul smelling holes in which you hide your ignorance and bask in the light of the DG Podcast, the light that will set you upon the path to freedom and knowledge.

Rhett and Jason both watched some movies this week. Jason watched Fierce Creatures which he enjoyed and Hawk the Slayer which he didn’t. Rhett watched three movies, the Interview which he didn’t like, Fury which he did like, and a third movie that was so bad he purged all memory of it from his mind.

Chance got off an email to us this week. He laments on the situation that all managers find themselves in after major holidays. He regales us with his adventure on a riding lawn mower. He also congratulates us on our distracted quality last show. He gives a plug for the sale over at Gamestop. Then we get a recommendation for the Percy Jackson series.

Podcast Episode 85 – Part B

Legendary Battle of the Action Heroes - Guns Edition

This is the DG Podcast. We would be sorry, but Rhett is a curmudgeon and Jason has no feelings. That being said we are ready to inflict you with a new episode. Face it, you probably did something to deserve it.

Right off, we have to apologize briefly. Jason and Rhett decided to play Nidhogg and while trying to do the podcast. Trying to carry on a conversation while learning a new game, it’s like trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. So after talking about Trivia Crack or at least creating a lot of dead air, we paused the game to finish the show.

Rhett is a fan of professional wrestling, at least enough to keep somewhat current on the sport popularized by Gorgeous George. Evidently there have been some shenanigans going on in the world of fake wrestling. The situation is so bad that the hero was being booed and the audience was demanding a refund. When was the last time you heard the audience demanding a refund at a professional sporting event. Naturally our discussion of the of professional wrestling leads us to wrestling video games.

As usual, we finish our podcast with the next round in our tournament: Judge Dredd versus Ethan Hunt. Judge Dredd is a no nonsense one man justice system. He is well armed and his shoot first, ask questions later attitude are definite benefits. Ethan Hunt is an operative of the IMF. He is also well equipped and well trained. In the next round of the tournament Jules Winnfield faces off against John Rambo.

Podcast Episode 85 – Part A

Here we are and there you are, back for another episode of the DG podcast. Now I’ll try to use small words so that you can follow along. We all know that words of more than two syllables give you headaches. We have everything for this episode; a listener email, the news dumps, and scintillating conversation from the hosts. We even have Lindsay.

Chance finally puts aside other distractions like his job, family, and life to send us an email. His excuse was that the yearly inventory where he works just drained him. He also had a death in the family to deal with. Megatron, his beloved laptop, finally joined the All Spark. Also, in surprise move his wife almost murdered his PS4. Now that we have outlined the next Daredevil trilogy, Chance can’t wait to see it. Maybe if we get enough popular support Marvel will listen to us. Windows 10 is going to be free with a catch. Watchdogs didn’t live up to the hype. And Marvel is sucking it with Secret Wars.

In the news dump:

  • The Hobbit now has 3 hour version.
  • Microsoft Xbox One App in Windows 10

The Distracted Gamers Podcast Episode 85 – Part A

Podcast Episode 84 – Part B

Legendary Battle of the Action Heroes - Guns Edition

Due to unavoidable technical difficulties the podcast was delayed. We now return you to your regularly scheduled drivel. We aren’t talking about the DG Podcast. We’re talking about the rest of what goes on in cyberspace. The DG Podcast is a solemn and dignified entertainment venue.

We start off the show with a review of some of the developments from Marvel and DC. New developments include:

  • Wolverines
  • Spider-verse
  • Superior Ironman
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Powers
  • Captain America and the Avengers
  • The Fantastic 4
  • Deadpool
  • Moonknight
  • Electra
  • Batman & Robin
  • Superman
  • Aquaman
  • Birds of Prey
  • Harley Quinn
  • G.I. Zombie
  • Justice League
  • Deathstroke
  • Green Lantern
  • etc.

We then discuss a topic that is rather sensitive, yet hilariously ridiculous. It is a little difficult to summarize. We have talked about sexism in games before, but it occurred to Rhett that by and large who dies in video games? Men. By and large, men are killed more often in video games and movies than are women. In the situation where there is a woman involved, usually another woman has to deal with her or the hero removes her by indirect means. Can you imagine if the Two of the Three Stooges were women? Instead of slapstick it would be a movie about domestic violence. That’s what we are getting at.

At the end of the show, we have the next bout in our tournament: Robocop versus B.A. Baracus. Robocop is a cyborg police officer. He is more man than machine and is armored and well armed. Baracus is the weapons master for the A-Team as well as being a highly skilled mechanic. He is also the team strong man. In the next battle: Judge Dredd versus Ethan Hunt.

Podcast Episode 84 – Part A

Thanks for nothing you slackers. We stay up late spewing our innermost thought and feelings and posting them for your enjoyment, and what do we get in return? You don’t even know we’re alive (well, except for you Chance). We’re keeping our part of the bargain here. What’s your problem?

In tonight’s episode we didn’t have an email from Chance, who isn’t usually such a slacker as mentioned above. So, we have to make do by actually having a conversation, barbaric isn’t it? The course of our conversation takes us through the very exciting and adventurous (read mundane) lives of our beloved hosts. Rhett has been doing pushups and hurting children along with being exiled to his room and playing Black Flag for legal reasons. Jason has been rereading a book called the Light Fantastic this time on his tablet. Since this is a book he’s read before he noticed that some pages were missing, 70 pages to be exact. This is yet another reason for not moving to digital. Lindsay has been self medicating because of an injury and languishing at school. Rhett and Jason also bought Nidhogg and will try to play it for an upcoming podcast.

Podcast Episode 83 – Part B

Legendary Battle of the Action Heroes - Guns Edition

Thanks for tuning into the latest and greatest episode of the DG or any podcast on the internet. We are steadily inching closer and closer to the triple digits. That means a one with two zeroes after it. I could see you scratching your heads in collective confusion. I keep forgetting about your intelligence impediment…your brain.

We start out strong and we keep going in episode 83 part B. Jason begins the podcast talking about Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and the last half of the final season of Futurama. For those of you interested in nostalgia and remember seeing the original Transformers cartoon this is a little blast from the past. In Transformers: Fall of Cybertron you take control of the Autobots as they prepare to leave Cybertron aboard the Ark, the ship that takes them to Earth. As for Futurama, it was cancelled and brought back and cancelled again. Unfortunately, the episodes in the seasons after it was cancelled the first time weren’t as good as the original episodes, they got too preachy. In the last seasons Futurama became a platform that was used to tell us what we were doing wrong. I’ll go to church or watch a documentary for that thank you. In a surprise move the last half of the last season went back to what made Futurama fun to watch.

Then Rhett began a topic that we stuck with for the rest of the show, bad movies and how to fix them. We started out with Harry Potter, but gave it up and moved on to Man of Steel. Rhett challenged Jason to fix Man of Steel and we came up with a great idea for a Superman trilogy. We then jumped to Daredevil. Jason, knowing that Rhett is a huge Daredevil fan, asked him what he would do to make a good Daredevil movie. Finally, we end the movie discussion by visiting the X-men. If you know anyone in Hollywood and these movie ideas sound good to you pass them on. We get credit of course.

Finally, we return to our tournament with the highly apathetically awaited fight between Martin Riggs and Mad Max. Martin Riggs is the crazy, reckless cop from the Lethal Weapon series. He is an excellent marksman and hand-to-hand combatant. Mad Max is a former cop in a post apocalyptic wasteland. He is a tough as nails survivor. In the next round of our tournament you will be unconcerned to see Robocop face off against B.A. Baracus.

Podcast Episode 83 – Part A

Here we are again for another episode of the DG Podcast. We are making some changes here at the podcast. It’s a new year and we are attempting to make something of ourselves. I would recommend that you do the same, but that would be a waste of time, like digging a hole to China.

We start out talking about Nuclear Proliferation. Not that kind. It is a rather fun game that usually devolves into petty squabbles and mutually assured destruction. Only one country survived, which was rather remarkable.

In the listener email, Chance shared with us his dedication to the show. He is typing this email on his phone. We go through some of the highlights from the last show:

  • EFF combating online harassment
  • Valve to announce DOTA2 tournament dates
  • Reintroduction of CISPA

The new episode of the podcast is out and it is bright and shiny, not that anyone cares. I suppose that I should resign myself to the fact that we put out loads of great material, highbrow and sophisticated, but it is way beyond the general intellect of the average internet patron, i.e. you.

Podcast Episode 82 – Part A

Are you ready for the new longer run of the DG Podcast? You are? Well don’t get too attached to it. It’s a one time thing. As a half-hearted apology we are doing a longer episode, not that anyone will care.

We open the show with our usual banter. This time the technical difficulties were on Rhett’s end. He was trying to fix his sister’s computer and had to take apart his computer (it makes sense if you listen to the episode). We take a turn for the bizarre when we talk about nuclear grade duct tape and laser guided pencils. We also talk about the video games that we will eventually blame when we go on a shooting spree. The conversation then turns to games that we would like to see redone for the current generation PCs and consoles. Some of the games we mention are Knights of the Old Republic, Ocarina of Time, and Septerra Core. We then talk about some of the very solid games that have been put out by Nintendo.

In the email Chance has let us know that he’s moved into his new home. Unfortunately, he has had a crappy week. He was sick during his move, but couldn’t do anything except move. Then he had a New Year’s sale to deal with. He sold about 4 times more dollars worth of merchandise than normal. Now that might not seem bad, but the telephone system were down. A technician decided to take down the phone system on the busiest sales day of the year. He did get Playstation 4 for Christmas, but waited until moving into the new home to break it out. Right now he doesn’t have internet so that is another part of his crappy week. He was impressed by Jason’s insults from the week before and he recapped his 2014 for us.

We then get to the news dump. And let me tell you, I weep for our generation.

  • Tekken 7 gets Saudi Arabian character
  • New exploit in Destiny
  • Alleged PSN hacker arrested
  • Aliens Games disappearing from Steam
  • Teen questioned about PSN and Xbox Live hack
  • Apple adopts return policy for digital downloads
  • Class action suit against Apple
  • Predictions for the coming year from professional analysts
  • Facial animations for Assassin’s Creed Unity
  • and Rhinovirus

We hope that you enjoy the show and look forward to your ire when we inevitably fail to entertain. Remember to send us your bile.
