Podcast Episode 55 – Part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here we are putting up another quality podcast episode. That is what the world has come to expect from the DG Podcast. What have you done today to justify your existence? Surfed the internet? Played a game or two? Am I guilting you into making your life better? I hope not. You might not listen.

Tonight we again read from Chance’s email. He covers a topic that you should feel strongly about. I know it starts to come off as a paranoid rant, but we here at the DG Podcast take it seriously. The monopolization of the internet. That’s right, Chance recently found out that his supposed Unlimited plan from his ISP, AT&T, has a 150gb cap. So, he decided to check around to see if he could change to a provider that wouldn’t cap his bandwidth and found that he had two choices Comcast or AT&T because they have deals that bar entry to other providers. Now we should be able to go to the FCC with complaints about this, but who runs the FCC now? Tom Wheeler a former lobbyist for big media companies. This is where his rant doesn’t seem so paranoid anymore. Chance also weighs in on the relationships that we talked about on the last episode. He starts by saying that the Peter Parker/Mary Jane relationship is the only one that he felt had substance beyond the norm. Then added that “The Boys” had a relationship worth checking out between Wee Hughie and Starlight.

In our news dump we have a dump. There is so much gaming news to go through. Guillermo del Toro has announced Pacific Rim 2. There is a new trailer for the Ninja Turtles Film. Harrison Ford was injured on set of episode 7 delaying the film and in worse news Tom Cruise may be in episode 7. Pictures have been leaked from the Batman vs Superman movie causing people to wonder is Superman dies in the film, maybe killed by Batman (really people?)? A new director has been chosen for Snow White and the Huntsman 2 which will focus on Chris Hemsworth’s character. Chloe Grace wants to do Kick Ass 3, but doesn’t think it will happen because people have been pirating Kick Ass 2 instead of buying it. I could go on, but you could listen to the podcast instead.

Podcast Episode 54 – Part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

As of episode 54 part 2, Chance is now a married man. What have you done with your lives? Just think to yourselves as you circle the blackhole that is this corner of the internet: What can I do better today? If the answer isn’t everything then you sir, are a liar.

In a continuation of our pandering to our super fan we decided to make this portion of the podcast about relationships. Now if you think that this signifies growth and development on our part, you would be wrong. This portion of the podcast is all about comic and video game relation ships. We have many relationships to choose from. We have Jessie and James from Team Rocket (they aren’t related, I checked). Commander Shepard from Mass Effect and anyone that moves. Then there’s Dragon Age: Origins and again apparently anything that moves (are you sensing the trend here?). We didn’t forget one of the most important couples, Cloud and Aeris, it was so depressing how she died. You were just starting to get things figured out when that tool Sephiroth kills her.

In the comics there are so many to chose from. Most of the time the relationships were predictable, some were surprising. One surprise came when Jason was researching for this section. He found several lists but had to go through four of them before he heard mention of Peter Parker and Mary Jane and an equal number before finding Superman and Lois Lane. Some of the relationships that we liked, or at least made sense, were Reed Richards and Sue Storm, Deadpool and Death and Thanos (that’s a funny one), Colossus and Kitty Pride, Nightwing and Starfire, and Martian Manhunter and Chocos. Some of the relationships that seemed forced to us were, Apollo and Midnighter, Superman and Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Green Arrow, Black Panther and Storm (a good relationship, but are they the only black people in the universe?), Cyclops and everyone he’s dated, Daredevil and everyone he’s dated, and Gambit and Rogue (again, the only southerners?). We have more, but I can’t remember them all at this point.

We end the podcast debating the last battle in out Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends: Superman versus Silver Surfer. It has finally all come down to these two incredible powerhouses, Superman who can lift continents, and that guy who endlessly cruises space looking for the perfect wave. Don’t worry, we don’t call it this episode so we can get your feedback. Let us know who you think will win, the Man of Steel or the Cosmic Surf Bum. Reasoned arguments only please, no Superman because he’s Superman arguments will be heeded.

Podcast Episode 54 – Part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome to the dark corner of the internet where depression goes to die. That’s right you have entered the DG Zone. If you think that’s depressing I have news for you. Now that you are hear you can never leave, but we have a special show for you tonight. Our super fan, Chance, is getting married.

Chance sent us a great email today. He is now broke, but getting married. In addition, we have for your palates several items of news. Evidently the WII U is doing better than it should, which leads us into a discussion on how the WII U could be improved. The PS4 is losing ground. That’s right the current king is losing ground to pretenders because of availability issues. Microsoft could be looking to acquire Capcom which could presage a new Megaman game. In the Superman versus Ghost Rider fight, Chance thinks that Superman would drop Ghost Rider in the Phantom Zone and leave. Jason doesn’t think that would hold him, and Superman already won. Rhett and Chance both give a recommendation for Young Justice and Beware the Batman. Chance recommends the cg Green Lantern. And finally we will soon have a picture of Chance pulling of the Pocahontas, something we can all look forward to.

In the news dump we have a plethora of news. That’s right a plethora and yes I did use is correctly. Watch Dogs looked great at E3 and then disappointed everyone with how poorly it looked upon release. Well, some modders found that the E3 visuals are still in the game and have unlocked them making the game awesome. EA said that the files are old and could make the game play suffer. Our society has finally fallen to the point that we now have video game addiction recovery centers. Yes, I know how lame that sounds. I cringe at my keyboard. UN condemned Superman. Yes, that’s right, one of the most ineffectual organizations on the planet condemned Superman back in the ’50s. Now, they love him. Ubisoft is evaluating the elimination of the subsidies that they have been receiving. They have also vowed to diversify their protagonists in the future. Does no one else see the problems here? Yes, they should diversify, but they need to do it naturally. This will force the issue and everyone will get shafted. Microsoft is still going to support the 360. What I think this means is that people didn’t buy the XBone in sufficient quantities and so they have to continue support or they will lose money. 12 million people logged into Twitch to watch E3. They could find something better to do? In a nod back to the listener email, Capcom stock holders reject takeover defense plan, makes you wonder what they know that the rest of us don’t. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Listen to the podcast for the rest.

Podcast Episode 53 – Part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here it is, another Thursday. I can’t say glorious, because it’s Wednesday and really, who actually likes Wednesday? Well, at least you have us to brighten your dull, dull day. Don’t try to deny it. It’s Wednesday.

In this episode of the podcast we discuss our impression on the recent E3. That’s right, we are a few days late, but there was so much to see and read about on E3 that now that you’ve had time to digest you’re ready for more.

Microsoft in our opinion did everything they were supposed to do, except amaze us. They didn’t dwell on their mistakes (always on, constant connection, kinect) and they showcased games. We have Assassin’s Creed Unity, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends and more. There seems to be a focus on multiplayer gaming with games like Assassin’s Creed and Fable getting multiplayer functionality.

Sony really failed to amaze anyone. However, this seems to be a trend with them, disappointing E3 showings. They have some good titles coming out like The Order: 1886, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, No Man’s Sky, Battlefield: Hardline, etc. It also seems that Sony has exclusives on all future Marvel games. Something entirely disappointing to everyone who doesn’t have a playstation.

Nintendo had a good showing. They are releasing a new Zelda, plus a Dynasty Warrior/Zelda cross, Bayonetta 2, etc. They also finally teased a new Star Fox, something people have been wanting since N64.

We finish up the podcast with the latest round in our Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends, Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance, versus Superman, the Man of Steel. Ghost Rider is incredibly powerful with supernatural flames that Superman may or may not be able to withstand. Superman, on the other hand is Superman. Check out the debate. I think Jason caved a little too fast personally.

Podcast Episode 53 – Part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back to the podcast for episode 53. We here at the DG Podcast commend you on your willingness to bring yourselves down to our level, but then we all know that if you weren’t here you would just be goofing off somewhere else. That being said we still appreciate your loyalty. Now go get a job you slackers!

We start the show off in the best way we know how, the listener email, and Chance doesn’t disappoint. He’s there like always to back us up and prop up our opinions. He’s our own “Yes Man”. He could do a little better, but this time he comes through for us hating subtitles. He doesn’t quite get our dumping on the new Star Wars movie. We aren’t actually dumping on the new movie in development. We’re just dumping on the changes that they have made to the universe since the addition of films 1 – 3. Jason also apologizes for his slip last week when he said Sam Raimi when he meant Harold Ramis. So there you go.

Rhett takes firm control of the news dump and right away inundates us with new information. We talk about the new consumer gaming report, Phil Spencer saying that E3 is not the place for Microsoft to hype PC gaming (what the heck Phil), the government of Quebec is cutting subsidies to gaming companies, Nordic Games bought THQ so that people would stop saying who’s Nordic Games, GOG is starting the summer DRM-free gaming sale, game developers are getting slammed for not including female character options in their games, Valve has banned content creators for copyright infringement, Sony to preload software starting with Destiny, and the FCC wants to end community broadband restrictions, etc. You’ll have to listen to get the full story on these and other topics.

Podcast Episode 52 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here you are again, the junky returning for his fix. We knew you couldn’t stay away. We got you hooked with just one taste and now we’re just reeling you in. We’ll take our time. You can’t hurry perfection like that.

Tonight we talk about the new Star Wars movie. There is quite a bit of speculation surrounding the new movie. Who’s in it? What are their roles going to be? What’s the story going to be? Will it be good? Will it suck? Will it live up to the hype? What are the pros? What are the cons?

Initial impressions are that we have high hopes for the movie. It is being helmed by JJ Abrams, who is a competent director who is interested in doing the project well. He seems to be open to the fans going so far as to leak a picture of the holo-chest from the Millennium Falcon. The crew is mostly new unknowns that haven’t been pigeon-holed in to one type of role or another. We can’t understand why they are going back to Tatooine. The fact that all material, except for the movies, are being ignore seems to be a slap in the face. All that being said, we are cautiously optimistic and will go see the new film regardless.

In the Battle of the Legendary Legends tonight we pit the Sky-Rider of the Spaceways, the Silver Surfer, against the Main Man, Lobo. In a breakdown of their powers, each possesses superhuman strength, durability, speed, and a preferred method of space travel. Lobo has the added benefits of health regeneration, expertise in armed and unarmed combat, and a genius level intellect. Silver Surfer has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy, he doesn’t sleep or eat, he can survive on the surface of stars, comets, asteroids, and black holes. His energy blasts are capable of planetary destruction. He can even create black holes. If you aren’t sure how we called this one listen to the podcast.

Our next match should be interesting. We will be discussing Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance, and Superman, the Man of Steel. It should be a good fight, and we are looking forward too it.

Podcast Episode 52 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here we are again. I know that we are a little late, but don’t let that get you excited. We aren’t dead or off the air. I know that is what you were hoping so don’t try to deny it. You can’t keep us down. We are like a bad penny, we always turn up.

In our listener email tonight, we talk about JK Rowling and Harry Potter. We also revisit the epic battle that we had between Namor and Superman. We let Chance tell us how he would have decided the outcome, but we don’t change how we called it. We also talk about E3 and what Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should do to position themselves well to the consumer. Jason also contribute the longest segment that he has ever done, thanks to Chance. Rhett is overcome. It was a touching podcast moment.

In the news dump Rhett goes through several astonishing stories. Evidently Californians don’t think that their politicians are corrupt. Hard copies for movies and games still account for the majority of purchases. Nintendo shut down one of their offices in Europe. Judge bars federal government from shredding document. Microsoft says that disconnecting the Kinect won’t free up system resources. Verizon warns Netflix to stop denigrating their service to their customers. Get the rest of the news on the podcast.

Podcast Episode 51 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Thanks for coming back for more punishment. We don’t know how you can stand it, but if you can stand it, we’ll keep bringing it. You’re welcome to episode 51 part 2.

Jason is in charge again and if you haven’t seen them you need to check out the student made Borderlands 2 shorts. There are three of them you can find all three of them here. The best of the bunch in my opinion is Loose Cannon Claptrap. However, Bride of Frankentrap and The Darkest Day are also good.

We then go on to discuss the X-men. There’s years worth of material from the 616 and Ultimate universes. We keep trying to get away from the Ultimate universe, but we keep getting pulled back in. We discuss our favorite members of the team, who we would date, befriend, etc. We also talk about little known members, powers, etc. To no one’s surprise we don’t like Scott. We find out that Jason would date Rogue, but ask her not to talk. Both Rhett and Jason like Kitty Pride, but only after reading the Ultimate X-men.

We finish the podcast with the final bout of our Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends in this round. We debate the destruction that would be caused by a clash between Superman, the Man of Steel, and Namor, the Submariner, two incredible powerhouses. The destruction would be incredible should these two ever go all out. Namor definitely has the sheer strength and durability to go up against Superman. He is also a ruthless and devious individual who won’t hold back. If you can imagine it, there might not be much left of them or anything else when they’re done.

Come back next week for the next round. We have for your consideration the Silver Surfer, the Herald of Galactus, versus Lobo, the Main Man.
