Podcast Episode 51 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back to the podcast. We are here to serve up some internet goodness for your enjoyment. And if you don’t enjoy it, we aren’t changing the menu, so get used to it. This is our forum and we don’t pander to anyone, unless you pay us obscene amounts of money, but who wouldn’t pander under those circumstances? Captain America that’s who.

Tonight Jason edits Chance’s profanity laden diatribe. We know you have come to expect it, so we deliver. Chance reveals his Political Dumb Ass of the Week award and gifts it to Glenn Beck. We also find out that Keanu Reeves has at least one fan. Nintendo got beaten out by Candy Crush Saga, and Red Dead Redemption is now a franchise.

Rhett delivers a moving performance as the reader of the news dump. Turns out that Apple was the evil company not Google. We mentioned last week that people were jumping off the building where there were manufacturing Google products. Well, it was Apple. The director of Zombieland is up for the job of directing Ghostbusters 3. IGN is going to be trying out a new format for their website, which sounds like a month-long commercial for the lucky (read who pays them the most) video games in question. Amazingly enough the Occulus Rift is for built for single players not groups. Net neutrality is in danger from high power special interest groups with deep pockets. There’s more than I can recount so listen to the podcast for the rest.

Podcast Episode 50 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

We hope that your Wednesday is sucking so bad that we can improve it with our podcast. It helps that our fans are so needy that we can improve their day with our substandard humor, or what we think passes for humor. We know what you want, and we give you something completely different.

Today Jason takes over the podcast. He starts out by mentioning the Guardians of the Galaxy, which we discussed last time. Both he and Rhett want the movie to do well. We then discuss the current trend in comic based movies. We just had Captain America 2, Spider-man 2, X-men: Days of Future Past all released recently. There is a new Batman/Superman movie, the Batman trilogy just wound up, and there was a Superman movie. This lead him to question the premise of an article he read about whether or not comic based movies are here to stay. This leads us into other topics, such as the Ultimate Marvel universe, Journey to the West, mistakes that comics are and have made, and thing that could end the comic based movie trend. Jason’s topic really took over and didn’t leave time for Rhett, but he had quite a bit to say regardless.

We end the podcast with our next battle in our tournament. We finally decide who wins the battle between Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance, and Doomsday. Ghost Rider is more powerful than people think with a bevy of Infernal powers and Doomsday is the beast that took down Superman. Listen to the podcast to find out how we called it and why.

In the next match in our tournament we will be pitting Namor, the Sub-Mariner, against Superman, the Man of Steel. Let us know who you think would win.

Podcast Episode 50 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Thanks for joining us on this historic episode. The podcast has reached 50 episodes. Commence with the fanfare, break out the champagne and the silly party hats, and a round of congratulations for everyone. Now that we have that out of the way, what are you doing with your life? Seriously though, thanks for listening.

Chance sent us an email as usual. Which just goes to show that we’ll read just about any email we get. Chance’s email is eloquent as usual and Jason butchers it. Hey, he’s just doing his job, and poorly at that. So, we talk awkward social interaction, the reversals from Microsoft on the Xbone, episode 50, and Nintendo failing to meet the standards of a human rights group in Australia. Keep the emails coming. We’ll read them.

Rhett does a spectacular job informing us about the news in a little time as possible. We have the renovations to Himeji Castle, Left 4 Dead is being released in Japan as an arcade game complete with Japanese school girl (it was either that or catgirl and school girl made more sense), man robs bank and is caught at Wal-Mart trying to spend his loot on video games. And for anyone out there Rhett has a challenge and a reward. Send us a picture of you doing the Pocahontas as explained in the podcast and as demonstrated by this picture: Pocahontas
If you send us the picture we will post it and advertise for you.

The Distracted Gamers Podcast Episode 50 – Part 1

Podcast Episode 49

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

We finally get back to the podcast. Jason was being selfish this past weekend and spending some quality time with his kids. He could have been spending time doing a podcast for our fan. For the rest of us we know that you junkies need your fix so here it is. This week there will only be one episode, but we will have two episodes for part 50.

We start the podcast as per the usual with our fan email. Chance has quite a bit to say on the subjects from the previous episode. Chance got a new download client to take care of his podcasts. Microsoft has been failing hard with the Xbone and they are finally doing something about it. They are getting rid of the Kinect. They are also permitting several services, Youtube, Hulu, Netflix, etc. without making you pay for a gold account. However, the hardware is still substandard to the PS4, there are hardly any good exclusives, and the online services isn’t as robust as that of Sony. Past that if you want to see poorly executed physics in a TV series check out the second to last episode of the Arrow series. Evidently they had problems with the rocks being realistic. Chance also busts our chops for wanting superheroines to wear more clothing. We aren’t saying that exactly. We were calling out the comic industry on the disparity between the way that they portray men and women. They wouldn’t give men the ridiculous outfits that they give to the women. Real women wouldn’t run into combat in high-heeled boots. They would wear combat boots, flak jackets, etc. Also, good luck on your reunion. We hope that the star football player is fat an balding.

In the news dump section we talk about some rather interesting news. ZeniMax is suing Occulus Rift for patent violations. Occulus Rift hired some of their former employees and now ZeniMax is claiming damages. The Kinect was meant to be completely integrated with the Xbone, but it would have made the system too big. A study on activity in children gave a nothing better than a C grade to the countries in the study. Time Warner and Comcast are the most hated companies in the US. Dark Souls will still be using Windows Live, so maybe Microsoft isn’t planning on ditching their Live service. There is a new Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer and the movie is looking good if it is anything like the trailer. Nintendo wins their patent infringement lawsuit. Rare fires their Senior Staff. AT&T vows to follow the old net neutrality rules for 3 years if they acquire DirecTV. For the rest you will just have to listen to the podcast.

The Distracted Gamers Podcast Episode 49

Podcast Episode 48 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Thanks for joining us on this lovely Wednesday for episode 48 part 2. We are the Distracted Gamers and you are our deluded fans. We couldn’t do it without you. You could do without us, but we know that by now you are addicted and we revel in your weakness. MawHAHAHAH!

Jason brings us back to our geeky roots. We talk about new developments in the DC and Marvel Universes. In the New 52, Batman Beyond travels to the past to help avert a disaster in the aftermath of a war with an alternate Earth. Hal Jordan must deal with an uprising against the Green Lantern Corps. iZombie and the Flash have both been greenlit as new television series. This development means that a Constantine series is that much closer to being greenlit as well.

In the Marvel Universe, Cyclops is getting his own series. Moon Knight is going to be punching some ghosts. Iron Fist is on #2 of his new series. Uatu the Watcher has been killed and Nick Fury is leading the investigation. In the Winter Soldier and in Agents of SHIELD, SHIELD has been taken down by Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon. There’s more, but you can get that from the podcast.

Rhett takes a turn for the serious with a discussion of the portrayal of women in comics. Kotaku reported on an artist that is drawing male comic book characters in iconic female poses. You can find more pictures like that at the Hawkeye Initiative. This leads to a discussion of the oversexualization of women in comics. Face it, women in skimpy outfits sell, not just comics, everything. We ask about the double standards produced, the impression that strong women have to wear little to no clothing, and changes we would like to see made to female characters.

Finally, as per usual, we end the podcast with the next bout in our Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends. Tonight we have Doomsday versus Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance. Doomsday is a superpower behemoth. He took down Superman, granted he was beaten himself in that fight, but he did something no one else had ever done. He is strong, fast, tough, and lethal. Ghost Rider on the other hand has almost limitless power at his bony finger tips. He is a completely different kind of monster. His powers are demonic in origin and involve fire, both real and hellfire. He is strong, fast, tough, and lethal himself. Rhett and Jason debate the match up for a while and have left it open till next week. It could be that since Doomsday is Kryptonian in origin he has the same weakness to magic that Superman has. However, we weren’t sure if we should classify Ghost Rider’s powers as magical in nature or not. We are leaning in that direction, but things could change. Tell us why Doomsday or Ghost Rider would win this.

Podcast Episode 48 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here we are yet again for episode 48 part 1 of our podcast. We enjoy doing the podcast. What’s your excuse? We know there are better things to do with your time. We are also grateful that you aren’t doing them.

In the listener email tonight Jason read directly from the email. He doesn’t paraphrase or shorten it in any way, at least until after the first paragraph. Sorry Chance, that’s the best he can do. Chance has a great idea for a new superhero movie, the Adventures of Doctor Gloom (working title). His explanation is too good to rely on Jason’s paraphrasing so listen to the podcast. We also talk about tattoos, Chance loves to see them on women (not really Chance’s fiance). We talk Star Wars and the new cast members. We talk about Chance’s phone developing its own intelligence and trying to save him from us. We also talk about some of the games he’s been playing recently, Dust, Strider, etc.

Then in the news dump, always popular, we try to discuss as many topics as Rhett brings up. Tonight we have SIMS 4 is adult only is Russia because of same sex relationships, Nintendo apologizes for not including same sex relationships in Tomodachi, Neocities throttles back the bandwidth for the FCC (who can blame them), federal court rejects Facebook/Zinga lawsuit, the EVE Online monument was vandalized, guy goes to jail for modding his Wii, etc. Listen to the podcast for the rest.

Podcast Episode 47 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

You just couldn’t stay away could you? We know you needed your DG Podcast fix, so here’s episode 47 part 2. Full of that DG attitude that you crave. Don’t worry, we take care of our junkies here at the DG Podcast.

Jason starts out the discussion tonight with the news that the cast for Star Wars VII was announced. The main actors from the original trilogy will be in the movie. JJ Abrams will be directing the movie and we have high hopes. He did a pretty good job with Star Trek movies (he though he was directing the new Star Wars movie). We then talk about which actors we might have wanted to see in the new movie, Bill Cosby, William H. Macy, Gwyneth Paltrow (just dying horribly), Cate Blanchett. We also talk stories that we would like to see in the new movie, Admiral Thrawn, fixing the midichlorians, etc.

After we get done, Rhett immediately returns us to Star Wars, kind of appropriate for May 4th. The reason we return is that everything Star Wars, the comics, the video games, the novels, everything that isn’t in the movies is gone. That’s right, they just slapped all the Star Wars fans and contributors in the face. None of the characters or stories mean anything anymore. All of the time we have invested in the Star Wars universe has been wasted. We were just kicked in the nuts people.

We finish out the podcast with the next round in our Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends. In tonight’s show down we have Wonder Woman, the Amazon Warrior, versus Lobo, the Main Man. Wonder Woman is a skilled warrior and possesses super strength, agility, and durability. Lobo on the other hand is a brutal fighter who also possesses super strenght, agility, and durability. Find out who wins by listening to the podcast.

Podcast Episode 47 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Thanks for joining us for another episode of the DG Podcast. We know you have better things to do with your time. Our question for you is why aren’t you doing them. We kid. We know you don’t have anything better to do so thanks for listening.

In our fan email section tonight we talk about Chance. If we got more email we would talk about them, but right now we get to bash Chance. “Thanks man for being a die-hard fan”, he said sarcastically. We talk about Jason getting his PhD, Aunt May winning the Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends. It is a good thing we didn’t put her in. We wanted this to be legitimate (she’s secretly the god of the Marvel Universe, don’t tell anyone). We also discussed the new Nintendo Fusion DS. It looks pretty impressive. There are some interesting possibilities with the plug-and-play controller modules. We also talk about the fact that Nintendo really does its own thing and still seems to do well in the console market. There’s more, so listen to the podcast.

In the newsdump tonight we talk about Donald Sterling, if you game you probably have a tattoo, Sony forecasts a net loss, Massachusetts town lifts 32 year ban on arcade games, League of Legends player suffers collapsed lung and still plays, NSA says they lost public trust (is this really news?), gaming addiction is being researched in Australia, and more. I would keep on but I run out of steam after a while and you should just listen to the podcast.
