Podcast Episode 46 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Well, I guess we know who doesn’t have anything better to do, it’s us but you don’t seem to have any better prospects yourself. Thanks for listening to the podcast. Rhett appreciates your support. Jason would appreciate it if he had the emotional capacity to care.

Jason starts off the podcast tonight with something that’s rather out in left field: Scooby-doo: The Wrestlemania Mystery. He used to like watching Scooby-doo as a kid and has introduced his children to Scooby. He watched this particular gem with his kids recently and was surprised by the stupidity. John Cena was practically a superhero. Shaggy and Scooby had to fight a match against Kane and won the championship belt. Sin Cara only speaks masked luchador which consists of quasi-dance/gymnastics movements which only John Cena can translate. It was funny and entertaining, but ridiculous.

Rhett decides that we need to fix the Xbone and so we discuss what can be done to attract more consumers to this particular turd. We talk about making the Xbox Live service free, eliminating the barriers to game developers, turning the Xbox Marketplace into an app store, and more. One thing we both agree on is that Microsoft can’t give up the Kinect. They can’t drop the price or upgrade the equipment either, so all of the measures that they take have to come from a different direction.

We wind up the podcast with the bout between the Silver Surfer, the Wielder of the Power Cosmic, and Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. Rhett has had it in the for the sorcerer since his victory over Captain Marvel and has determined that he will not advance past this round. Listen to the podcast to find out how he did.

Next week in our Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends we have the Amazon Warrior, Wonder Woman, versus the Main Man, Lobo.

Podcast Episode 46 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back to the DG Podcast. We finally got around to putting up episode 46 part 1. Sorry about the wait. It was, invariably, Jason’s fault, but what else is new. If you checked the previous post Jason and Rhett were testing their martial arts skills on Saturday. Our Sensei believes in testing a person’s skills, patience, and endurance. This means that our test started at about 12:30 on Saturday and ended at around 6:00. We enjoy it. We get to demonstrate our skills, learn from our sensei and each other, but it is physically draining.

Tonight on our fan email we talk school, common core, politics, FCC, net neutrality, pc gaming versus console gaming, and more. Chance also weighs in on the Superman versus Magneto bout that we discussed last week. We will let you guess which one he sided with *cough*Superman*cough*.

In the news this week we discuss mobile games taking a hit, Sony might not produce a PS5, the mythical Atari graveyard has been discovered, a teenager using Skype sent a SWAT team to the house of the person that beat him on Call of Duty, and more.

The opinions expressed here on the DG Podcast are our own and we don’t really care if you agree or not, but we would like to hear from you. That being said we reserve the right to ridicule any opinions not our own. Have a great day, Internet.

Podcast Episode 45 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back to episode 45. Thanks for listening. It’s too bad I can’t really make that sound insincere. I could if we were face to face, but I don’t want to try to force it.

Jason takes charge tonight and semi-leads the discussion. Rhett must have been bored.

Rhett starts us off by talking about his list of the worst made up sports ever, mostly because of Harry Potter. We get treated to podracing (why are the engines in the front), quidditch (why aren’t you all trying to get the snitch), death race (Twisted Metal in movie form), the Hunger Games (you are trying to inspire people by having them slaughter each other?), and more.

Jason decided to change his topic to keep things short. Kotaku published a list of government projects, mostly department of defense, that were code named Batman. The list made interesting reading. It just goes to show what happens when nerds grow up.

In tonight’s Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends we have Superman, the Man of Steel, versus Magneto, the Master of Magnetism. We feel that this fight is, unfortunately, very one-sided. On the one side we have Superman, one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe. On the losing side we have Magneto, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. However, we just don’t see him prevailing.

Up next in our tournament are Silver Surfer, the Herald of Galactus, versus, Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme.

Podcast Episode 45 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Here we are back again to waste more of your time. We here at the DG podcast believe it is our duty to darken the internet with our brand of idiocy. And if you think we are misusing the internet I would have to disrespectfully differ.

We start with our listener email. Jason start right in without even acknowledging that it was Chance that sent it. Thanks for the catch Rhett. Anyway, he sounds off on a number of things we talked about last week. Evidently his son is learning well from his example. He wanted the Flash to win in the last episode but sides with us in declaring Namor the winner. He gets us talking about politics and we just go with it.

In the news dump we have quite a bit to get through and we start rushing near the end to bring the time down. The composer for the music from the Halo games was fired. Research shows that being exposed to violent video game makes you more aggressive. In another study playing video games doesn adversely affect your grades. Sony sell off all its stocks in Square Enix. We have much more for you to enjoy.

We hope that you weren’t bored, not that we really care. Join us on Wednesday for part 2 of episode 45.

Podcast Episode 44 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

You just couldn’t find something better to do tonight, could you? Well, here you are episode 44 part 2. You should find something better to do with your time.

Jason starts us off with two games that he has played recently. They aren’t new, but he wanted to give you his opinion of both of them. He has recently checked out Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed and found that it was surprisingly entertaining. It is a racer in the vein of Mario Kart, but there are a couple of things that make it more entertaining. First, your vehicle changes from a car to a boat or a plane depending on the level. Second, you can drift, which can be quite fun.

Rhett then brings us back to the 80’s and professional wrestling. We talk Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Gravedigger, Andre the Giant and the rest that made it entertaining to watch this soap opera for men. Rhett was reminded about this as the death of the Ultimate Warrior was reported recently.

Now is the event you have all been wanting to avoid, the Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends. Tonight we pit Namor the Submariner against Wally West, The Flash. Namor is probably one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. He is incredibly strong, tough, smart, devious, and ruthless. The Flash is fast, but he just doesn’t have the strength or the durability of Namor. You can kind of see where we are going with this.

Next week on the podcast we will be debating Magneto, Magnetism’s Master, versus Superman, the Man of Steel

Podcast Episode 44 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back for another episode. We are up to episode 44 tonight. What are you doing with your life, or what have you done to deserve this purgatory. Whatever it is we appreciate it.

Tonight we start with listener email (Hi, Chance). We find out that Chance fell for IGN’s prank about Optimus Prime being DLC for Titanfall. His son was right to laugh. He also gives us his paranoid rant about the IRS and the Federal Reserve. He advocates for people to take there desperation money away from Ok Cupid. And he ties everything up with latin, highly classy.

On the news dump tonight, we have several good stories. Dragon Age Inquisition will not have day 1 DLC. Comcast has been contributing to the campaign finances of democrats and republican on the senate judicial committee. Microsoft is going to try to find the legendary graveyard of the Atari ET cartridge, the worst game in history. Republican district attorney advocates for making crimes committed by politicians punishable by death. Death of the Ultimate Warrior. And much more.

Podcast Episode 43 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome to the black hole in the internet that is episode 43 part 2. I would say that we have a special treat for you on the podcast, but then I would be lying.

What we do have on the podcast is a Erock and his ilk. Erock just happens to be an amazing guitarist and he has put together some videos on Youtube to show off his skillz. Notice the “z”? In this case fully justified. Here is his channel. You can also find more of his stuff at http://shredguitareric.com/. Check him out, it is worth it. Here are some more links you might like.

That brings us to video games with great hype that just couldn’t deliver. The conversation was sparked by Watch Dogs. We were promised the world and given a small asteroid in the Van Allen Belt where the radiation will eat our faces. After that we talk about other games that disappointed us, games like Kingdoms of Amalur, Marvel vs Capcom 2 (I said 3, I meant 2), Mass Effect 3, Half-Life 2, Bioshock Infinite, etc. We also talk about games that we didn’t think we would like, but that turned out great, like Left 4 Dead and Septerra Core. What games disappointed and/or impressed you?

We finally get to the main event of the night the Incredible Hulk versus Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance. The Hulk is a gamma radiation powered force of nature. He has single-handedly defeated the greatest heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe. His strength has no known upper limit. Ghost Rider on the other hand can be unstoppable in his own right. It has been remarked that he has limitless power by none other than Dr. Strange, whom he has defeated. The vast destruction unleashed by these two staggers the imagination. Who do you think would win?

Podcast Episode 43 – part 1

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

You just couldn’t stay away, could you? Here we are back for episode 43 part 1. What on Earth are you doing here.

Tonight we are changing things up a bit. We are starting with the news dump. We have lots to talk about and all of it is making Rhett mad. We have the internet putting pressure on Mozilla to fire the CEO for his support of Prop 8. His support of prop 8 was personal and in no way connected to his job. So why should he be fired for it. Amazon console is official and for sale. Microsoft rewards a five year old for hacking his father’s Xbone. Gamespy is dead. Europe takes steps to guarantee net neutrality. All that and more. We’re generous that way.

In our listener email today Chance responds to last week’s show. He reveals that he is a fan of the Muppets and Muppets from Space in particular. He also read video game reviews for the entertainment value, not for the reviews themselves. His son was mortally offended by our comments on his internet idol, which was our goal.

Join us in a few days for the next half of the podcast were we discuss musicians on Youtube, video games that didn’t live up to the hype, and Ghost Rider versus Hulk.

Podcast Episode 42 – part 2

Legendary Battle of the Legendary Legends

Welcome back for part 2 of episode 42. We hope that you didn’t detest part 1. Actually, we don’t really care, it’s just something to say.

Our first topic for discussion tonight are game reviews. Games sites are constantly pushing reviews of new games and reviews for games that aren’t even finished yet. The question that we ask is do we actually take reviews into consideration when we are looking for a game to buy? For us, we tend to ignore the reviews from the various gaming sites and weigh more heavily the opinion of our friends.

Jason follows this with an interesting observation. Disney has been buying up entertainment companies to expand their market. The thought that sparked this is the new Muppet movie that just came out. Disney bought the Muppets several years ago. Now Disney has acquired both Marvel and Star Wars. We spend the rest of the episode discussing crossovers between Muppets and Marvel and Muppets and Star Wars. Some of the crossovers we discuss are the Swedish Chef as the Emperor, Kermit the Frog as Han Solo, Beeker as Admiral Akbar, Animal as Spider-man, Oscar the Grouch as Ironman, Kermit the Frog as Nick Fury, etc. What combinations do you think are appropriate?

We finish the episode with our next match up in the legendary battle of the legendary legends. Tonight we pit the Dark Knight against Doomsday. We know all about Batman’s ability to out think his enemies. We also know that Superman beat Doomsday and Batman beat Superman. The problem here is that Superman always holds back with Batman. You can see where this is going.
